The Watauga River is around one hour away from Ski Country
Sports in Banner Elk where we will meet for this trip at
11:30 a.m., Monday thru Saturday. Watauga River is the ideal river for
families with small children.
We put in for this Watauga River trip at the base of Wilbur Dam, which
controls the water flow for our four and a half mile trip.
The river offers fast moving water with mild rapids,
beautiful pastoral scenery and an abundance of Canadian
geese and ducks.
Not long after we start rafting down the Watauga River you
will run the mighty Anaconda the best rapid of the day which
will run from a class two to a class three rapid based on
water flow. Kids love this intro to white water with water
fights from start to finish that brings out the child in all
of us. For those who don’t want to partake in the game we
know how to keep a raft just out of reach so you can still
watch but not get wet.
About mid way down we will serve you a lunch and give you a
chance to swim around if you would like. About fifteen
minutes after we get off the water we will arrive at a store
so that you might get a snack for the trip back and use the
facilities. Returning back in Banner Elk at Ski Country
Sport at around 5:00 p.m.
We will provide the transportation to and from the river,
guide for the day, equipment and snack along side the river
or before.
